Like Bethesda’s previous titles, it’s not too difficult to mod Fallout 4, and there exists a vibrant modding community in spite of the lack of any official tools to facilitate it. Bethesda released their latest game with the promise of official mod support some months after the release of the game.

Today, they’ve confirmed that official mod support will come first to the PC version of the game in April between the release of the first two DLCs.

Game director Todd Howard told GameInformer that gamers can expect to see it between the release of Automatron and Wasteland Workshop.

“We want to get it up on PC and have it work,” he said. “It’ll go up at that time on PC. In April. All of that stuff will go up on PC.”

Howard added that modding support would then make its way over to the Xbox One a month later, followed by the PlayStation 4 another month after that.

Howard said that PC gamers will also be able to enjoy the Survival Mode first, as they’ll have the ability to test it out before anyone else through the on-going beta program. The mode is set to offer huge changes to the way Fallout 4 is played, forcing the player to take into account many new challenges like having to eat, sleep, and stay healthy.

Until Fallout 4 gets official modding support, gamers can head to the Fallout 4 Nexus to pick up their mods. It’ll be interesting to see how much better many of these mods will become once the tools are finally released.
