Music and rhythm games have been a staple for some time, believe it or not. But if you have an Xbox One, you’ll be able to get some of the best ever made.
#15 Kingdom Hearts: Melody Of Memory
We won’t even try to describe the Kingdom Hearts story to you; it’s too convoluted at this point. We will talk about the one game in the franchise that is a rhythm title: Kingdom Hearts: Melody Of Memory.
Taking place in a spot in the story we won’t describe, you’ll go through the various worlds of the series as Sora, Donald, and Goofy and have to play along to the beats of the series’ tracks. From Disney classics to the main themes of the titles, you’ll have a nostalgia run as you enjoy these tunes.
But don’t try to understand the story. It’ll save you so much hassle.
#14 Metal Hellsinger
Many of these rhythm titles are solely about getting points and such for getting the beat of the music right. But there are exceptions, and Metal Hellsinger is one of them. In the title, you play as a being that is part human and part demon. As The Unknown, you’ll plunge into the depths of the underworld to get revenge on those that have wronged you.
To that end, you’ll wield various weapons that will get stronger the more you use them on the beat. With epic metal tracks as your background, you’ll be headbanging as you blast and slash away. Plus, you can upload your own tracks into the title too!
#13 The Metronomicon: Slay the Dance Floor
Keeping it going with the unique titles that feature rhythm gameplay, we have The Metronomicon: Slay the Dance Floor.
The title is a mix of a rhythm game and an RPG. In it, you’ll play as a group of “rhythm combat arts” and must use them to defeat dancing fiends. Monsters, not humans, wanted to be clear on that. Then again, a game based on people beating up dancers for hogging the floor could be a big hit.
You’ll need to use your team well and match their movements to the beat to get the best results. You’ll have a fun time in this title with a campaign mode and plenty of variety and tracks.
#12 Double Kick Heroes
In Double Kick Heroes, you’ll be put in a post-apocalyptic world where the only way to overcome enemies is to kill them with heavy metal music. Yep, that’s the post-apocalyptic world you live in!
The main game has 30 different heavy metal tracks for you to jam to. The better you do on the beat, the better you do against the zombies that are chasing after you. So fly down the highway at high speeds and ensure you don’t get caught!
The title also has a backstory for your unique metal characters. Plus, you can upload tracks to jam on further. So what are you waiting for?
#11 Giraffe and Annika
If you want an adventure that plays like something you’d read from a comic or manga, then get Giraffe and Annika. The title mixes RPG elements, a grand story, comic visuals, and rhythm gameplay to create something unique.
You’ll find yourself on the island of Spica, a place that has many mysteries and secrets to uncover. First, you’ll have to work hard to figure out all that’s going on. Then, when battles come, you’ll sync your attacks with the music to beat them back and come out on top!
Add that to the story being told through comic panels, and you’ll see just how much charm this title exudes.
#10 Superbeat: Xonic
Superbeat: Xonic mixes frenetic music with monsters and asks you to keep up. It won’t be an easy feat, but if you make it through, you’ll be better for it. Or maybe you won’t. It just depends on how you play.
There are over 65 tracks in the title, and you’ll be able to play them on various difficulties. The more you master, the more you’ll be able to handle the different modes. You can even do a freestyle play if you feel confident enough.
The game’s visuals are very colorful and energetic, so you’ll feel the beat and the challenge as you play.
#9 Thumper
No, not the rabbit that Bambi knew! The game’s name is Thumper, and it’s about a beetle trying to take out an evil head from the future. We don’t pretend to understand it, so let’s move on.
The game will put you through multiple levels of blistering difficulty as you’ll need to blast through barriers on the way to your foe. The controls will be easy to learn, but putting them to good use as you overcome each level will not be as easy.
Each crash you make into a barrier will line up with the song. So make each hit count, and take down your foe!
#8 Fuser
Fuser isn’t a game where you’ll be playing the music. Instead, it’s one where you can fuse the music as a DJ and ensure the party never starts. Mainly because, in this game, the party only stops when everyone is done playing.
There’s a 24/7 live stage in the title where you can have friends and watch other people jam it up. Then, you can have your turn on the stage and rock the world with various tracks from famous artists. Finally, if you want a more private setting, you can enjoy a private room that can host up to 250 people you like!
So get behind the turntable and jam!
#7 Crypt Of The NecroDancer
Crypt Of The NecroDancer immediately captured imaginations upon its arrival. Its mix of dungeon-crawling adventures and rhythm-based gameplay was something that hadn’t been done before. You’ll get to play as one of 15 different characters and traverse many dungeons. You’ll move to the beat of the soundtrack, and the rest of the dungeon moves with you every time you move.
There are many different ways to test yourself, including trying to get the highest score, doing a speedrun, or completing the crypt with each character. They all play differently, so you’ll need to adjust how you use them. With 40 main tracks and the ability to upload MP3s, you’ll have plenty to do in the title.
#6 Taiko no Tatsujin: The Drum Master!
Here’s a game that came out recently but was still on the Xbox One and other last-gen systems. “Taiko no Tatsujin: The Drum Master!” will put you in the role of the characters from the Japanese series, and you’ll do your best to match the beat of the music with the Taiko Drum you play.
The fun part about the title is that much of the game’s soundtrack comes from other video game franchises!
Add to that; there are multiplayer modes in the title, so you can battle against friends to see who is the best musical maestro among you! So beat that drum!
#5 Fantasia: Music Evolved
When the Kinect was Microsoft’s big swing at motion controls, they did their best to bring big names to the extension. Fantasia: Music Evolved was one such example, as they got the beloved Disney property to their system and put a lot of effort into the controls and worlds.
In the title, you’ll be the “Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” and alongside Yen Sid, you’ll journey through areas and create life while moving to the rhythm of tracks. Oh, and it’s not just Disney tracks you’ll be moving to. There are plenty of other tracks to enjoy.
So if you want to be on a magical adventure and have a Kinect, this game is for you.
#4 Guitar Hero Live
The Guitar Hero series changed the world when it first came out. But, over time, it got a bit tricky to keep it fresh and innovative. Guitar Hero Live was a good attempt at rebooting the franchise, but it came up short in a few ways.
The thing they did absolutely right, though, was the new guitar control. It featured more buttons to make it feel like an actual guitar versus the simple button setup in the original games. They also put in new modes for gamers to test their skills on.
Sadly, the game didn’t do as well as hoped, and the series ended with it. But you can still play it if you want!
#3 Rocksmith
While Guitar Hero and a certain other franchise we’ll get to led the way for some to pretend to be rock gods, others really wanted to become them. Unfortunately, while those games were good, they weren’t instructional tools. Rocksmith is, however, so if you want a title that’ll help you learn guitar, this is for you.
All you have to do is have an actual guitar, and then you’ll plug it into the Xbox One with a special peripheral. Once you’re in, you can learn to play guitar at a pace that works for you. Then, test yourself out on the tracks that are within the title.
So why not see if you have the makings of a guitarist in you?
#2 Rock Band 4
While the franchise has long seen better days, you should still go and revel in the greatness that was Rock Band 4. The title will let you not only play two different kinds of guitar, but you can do drums and vocals! So no matter what kind of musician you are, you can enjoy the title.
Plus, the game features an expansive lineup of tracks from all genres. It might be named after rock, but there’s more than just that in there.
Not to mention, if you have some friends to play it with, you can have your own group jam session. What could be better?
#1 Just Dance Franchise
You’ll want to participate in the Just Dance Franchise if you’re looking for arguably the most fun and involved way of doing a rhythm game. The games may have started as a simple game back in 2009, but they soon became a revolution that got people dancing, especially with various motion controls.
You’ll be an avatar and dance to some of the best modern-day and classic eras tracks. With the Xbox One, if you have a Kinect, you can literally dance the night away and feel exhausted once you’ve done a couple of tracks.
So why not get up and move to your favorite groove?
