The latest update for ARK: Survival Evolved is for the (terror) birds. Studio Wildcard has announced today new content for their prehistoric survival game, introducing both a new major species and a new weapon: the Terror Bird and the Grappling Hook. Both will dramatically change the dynamic of the game.
The Terror Bird is an aggressive, flightless avian that can be tamed and ridden, and is capable of glides and leaping that aid in its use as a combat mount.
The Grappling Hook meanwhile will give the Survivor player all new ways to traverse the wilderness, allowing them to climb heights and capture or wrangle flying creatures, small animals, and other humans. Its use as both a combat weapon and scaling tool will necessitate a whole new strategy for survival out in the wilderness. Get more information on that and the Terror Birds in the new ARK: Survival Evolved Spotlight trailer, above.
Some smaller changes are also coming with the update, including PvE and PvP Tribe Alliances that allow small Tribes to band together against larger ones, an upgrade to fishing that gives greater range of sizes and rewards to the Coelacanth Nutritia, and a new game text localization feature for crowd-sourcing translation. All Current Items will also be added to the Master Items ID array.
ARK: Survival Evolved, currently in Early Access on Steam, will see a full retail release in the summer of 2016 on Xbox One, PC, and PlayStation 4 (with full Morpheus support). Currently it is also 33% off on Steam, where you can pick it up for $19.99. For more on ARK: Survival Evolved, check out our site tag to get caught up on all our past news.
