A Mario Kart-themed flash mob descended on the Westfield Shopping Center in London this week and seems to have a great deal of fun while doing it.
The video posted on the sparsely populated Base37 YouTube channel shows a number of kart drivers descending on the retail outlet to have some fun while dressed up as Mario, Luigi, Bowser, Princess Peach, and more. After lining up to start a race outside, they move into the shopping center and even throw bananas at each other as they rush past puzzled customers and shop assistants. Things do stop for a second when they reach the elevators but the racers continue once they reach the carpark and rush to the finish line.
All of the footage was captured on a GoPro camera and it all looks like good, albeit, silly fun.
It’s interesting to note that despite Mario Kart 8 being the latest entry in a well-established franchise, Nintendo’s hit 2015 shooter Splatoon has consistently outsold the game since launch. Of course, Mario Kart 8 is still ahead overall, with total sales of 7.24 million units compared to the colorful shooter’s 4.06 million units.
12 million Wii U systems have been sold to date so that’s an impressive attach rate for both titles and suggests that while Nintendo can continue to bank on Mario and friends (and enemies), the company’s fans are enthusiastic about new ideas put forward by the company as well. We can likely expect to see sequels to both games on the Nintendo NX.
