Romero Games has announced that it is currently working on a new IP built in Unreal Engine 5. The studio, home to one of the FPS genre’s biggest names in John Romero, has also revealed that it is currently hiring for all positions on the as-yet-unannounced game’s development team.
The studio is described on the Romero Games website as being “100% focused on first-person shooters,” a format which they also believe to be “the foundation that built our careers, our studio and a genre.” This will be understandable to fans of games such as Doom, Quake, Wolfenstein 3D and many other notable FPS franchises such as Watch Dogs and Far Cry. Romero Studios’ team have had major leadership input on those titles, amongst others, and as such, seem focused on doing what they do best in the form of first-person shooter games.
The studio hasn’t given much away about the new title, saying only that “we can confirm that it’s new, that it’s a shooter and that we’re making it with a major publisher. Otherwise, it’s way too early to share any other information on it.”
We do know that the new project is described as an “all-new FPS with an original, new IP.” In addition to this, the studio has also confirmed it is working with “a major publisher,” although there are no further details on who that may be as yet. The new game will make use of Unreal Engine 5 and as such, have shared in a recent tweet that they’d be keen to hear from applicants with experience of using UE5.
We’ll be keeping an eye on this potentially exciting new entry into the hugely popular FPS genre as and when things kick into gear in terms of further development.
