Tomorrow’s Star Wars Battlefront DLC Confirmed, Expansion Pack Details Announced

January 26, 2016 by Carlos Chism

You’ll be able to play on Cloud City later this year.

Star Wars Battlefront’s Senior Producer, Sigurlina Ingvarsdottier, officially announced today the contents of the game’s next free DLC update, which hits tomorrow. Players will receive new outfits, private matches, daily challenges, and more modes on Tatooine.

Ingvarsdottier began the long, detailed post by saying DICE has been listening to player feedback:

"As we said back in November, the release of Star Wars Battlefront was just the beginning. Our team has been listening to your feedback and building a calendar of new content and tuning changes we will be making to the game throughout 2016. All fans will get free* content that includes new maps for both multiplayer and Missions modes, the introduction of Private Matches, new Hero outfits, and more."

She then went on to detail all of the free content coming tomorrow. It includes:

  • The Tatooine Survival Map called “Raider Camp,” which will now support Blast, Droid Run, Drop Zone, Hero Hunt, and Heroes vs Villains multiplayer modes.

  • New Hoth-themed outfits for Luke Skywalker and Han Solo, both of which will be available to all fans when they play as these two iconic characters on Hoth.

  • The ability to create private matches.

  • The introduction of Daily Challenges and Community Events, designed to “rally the Community around certain goals and objectives, giving players the chance to earn credits and unlocks even faster.” There will be more news about these features “in the days ahead.”

  • Overall balancing tweaks for both weapons and multiplayer modes.

The post also outlined the free content roadmap for February and March. Next month will bring a new Survival Mode mission on Hoth, along with a new multiplayer map set on the planet that will support the title’s larger game modes. This update will also make Turning Point, currently exclusive to the Battle of Jakku December update maps, available to play on all maps that support Walker Assault and Supremacy.

In March, there will be another new map on Endor, which will support Walker Assault, Supremacy, and Turning Point, along with a new Tatooine Survival Mode map.

Finally, the post shared the names and details of each of the Season Pass expansion packs:

  • Outer Rim (March 2016) – Fight among the factories of Sullust and battle within Jabba the Hutt's palace on Tatooine

  • Bespin (Summer 2016) – It's hunt or be hunted in this action-packed experience set in the Cloud City of Bespin

  • Death Star (Fall 2016) – That’s no moon! One of the most iconic locations in the Star Wars universe makes its debut in Star Wars Battlefront.

  • Expansion Pack 4 – Title TBA (Early 2017) – We will have more details to share about this exciting new expansion pack in the coming months.

While the game initially faced criticism for a dearth of content, the free updates have provided a wealth of maps and modes. Last month's Battle of Jakku DLC was mostly well received. Some of, but not all, of these confirmed updates were included in the leaked EA Brazil video from last week.

Does the free content, along with the details for the expansions, entice you to buy the season pass? If you decided to not buy the game in the fall, are you more inclined to grab it now? Let us know in the comments.
