Firaxis Games has revealed that they are working closely with Long War Studios, a group of modders who made the fantastic Long War mod for XCOM: Enemy Unknown. The modders will be actively developing new mods for XCOM 2, which releases exclusively on the PC this February.
Firaxis made the announcement on its official blog, which states that the modding group is making multiple mods for the game, one of which is no doubt a Long War type mod for the upcoming game. We're curious as to what else they could be developing.
One of the biggest changes slated to come with XCOM 2 is the addition of official modding support, which the previous game lacked. A range of official tools will be available for the entire playerbase upon the game's release.
The game's senior producer Garth DeAngelis told Eurogamer awhile back that they wish they did this for the original game.
"We want to give the community more tools to make things like the Long War, or whatever you want to do. We want to see more of that. We think it's the ultimate relationship with our fans and our community, and we can't wait to see what they come up with," he said of supporting mods.
