In a move straight from 1995, Oculus announced today that the Oculus Rift virtual Reality headset will come with its own launch title, Lucky’s Tale, free of charge.
Palmer Luckey, the company’s CEO, who just so happens to share a name with the new game’s protagonist, issued a statement with the announcement:
“We always believed there was an opportunity for platformers in VR, but it wasn’t until playing Lucky’s Tale and working with the Playful team that we truly realized its potential to change how people view this genre of gaming forever. Lucky’s Tale delivers on everything you want in a next-generation VR game—it’s thrilling, full of adventure, and incredibly fun to play.”
Lucky’s Tale is being developed by Playful Corp., a studio that’s been involved with the Oculus Rift since its humble Kickstarter beginnings. We’ve also recently learned that anyone who preorders the VR headset will also get a free copy of EVE: Valkyrie, and that any purchase at all will likely cost more than $350, according to CEO Luckey.
The Oculus Rift is due out in the first quarter of 2016. You can check out the Lucky’s Tale gameplay trailer below.
