Oculus has announced that preorders of the Oculus Rift VR headset will include a copy of EVE Valkyrie, which will also premiere first on the Oculus platform. Oculus founder expressed his excitement to partner with EVE developer CCP. The bundle is expected to release in Q1 2016.
Luckey say that EVE Valkyrie “perfectly captures the promise of immersive gaming,” going on to discuss its combat and multiplayer dogfights in space as a good fit for the platform. The game is an offshoot of the massively multiplayer role playing game EVE Online, which is probably one of the most unique and complex MMOs on the market today.
Oculus has made other announcements concerning the Rift. Earlier in the year, they announced Oculus Home as the platform’s main hub. Through Home, users of the virtual reality headset will be able to, while wearing the headset, shop for games for the Rift, browse virtual spaces for each of the games before making a purchasing decision, see what friends are up to, and more. While wearing the Rift is possible when using Home, it is not required. A 2D interface is also being designed, should you wish to browse games or interact with friends without the use of the peripheral.
Luckey has also recently explained why the Rift’s price is now beyond $360.
The Oculus Rift is expected to release in Q1 2016.
