CD Projeck Red has released the first two screenshots from the upcoming The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt expansion, titled Blood and Wine. The pictures, viewable below, give us a first glimpse at the large new land called Toussaint. They show a large castle built upon a hill, and a colorful village set somewhere nearby. Players will be able to fully explore the region when the expansion releases during the first half of 2016.
Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, the project’s Game Director, issued the following statement: “We overcame so many obstacles to get to this point, and we’ve always done it with gamers rooting for us. It’s your year, too! Blood and Wine, the second expansion for The Witcher 3, is on the horizon. It’s a massive new land to explore, visually unlike anything you saw in Wild Hunt or Hearts of Stone, and it too is brimming with stories we want you to discover.”
Blood and Wine is meant to include roughly 20 hours of new narrative content taking place in Toussaint. The land is described as “untainted by war,” and has an atmosphere of indulgence hiding an ancient, bloody secret. The expansion is still available for purchase via the game’s Expansion Pass.
The Witcher 3 released this May to high praise. Its first expansion, titled Hearts of Stone, was met with more lukewarm phrase. Critics said it didn’t change up the base game’s formula, and instead only added on more content. CD Projeck Red has said that they are ready to focus their attention on the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 after this expansion has launched.
