Killing Floor 2 Developer Defends Microtransactions Plans

November 24, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

Tripwire also promised it is listening to feedback.

Tripwire Interactive has taken to defending adding microtransactions to Killing Floor 2, after fan reaction did not go the way they hoped.

Killing Floor 2 is still in Early Access, and seemingly part of this will be the addition of a Trading Floor section. This will sell items for cash. Tripwire explained that these items will be cosmetics for now, but in the future they will also sell keys to open encrypted crates.

Tripwire has opened a new page explaining their future plans for microtransactions, and shared this statement:

In the future we may be adding weapons with new gameplay for sale, but this will appear in the 'Shared Content' area on the server. This means that, if any player on the server has a weapon, then every player on the server will be able to use it.

Tripwire explained that they will split sales proceeds with community members who make items, and the money they keep will go into making post launch DLC.

Tripwire also promised it is listening to feedback:

Not much time left to change anything before the update, but we are listening. And, to those asking 'why not get the game out of Early Access first?' – well, here's your answer. Feedback, leading to changes in what we are doing with this, changes to future plans.

So that, when the game comes out of Early Access, it is actually finished, with core systems like this ironed out and working the way people want it to.

Do you think Tripwire has explained their motives and defended their decisions adequately? What else would you like to hear from them? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.

Killing Floor 2 will be released on Windows, Linux, and PlayStation 4.
