Indie developer Versus Evil has pulled Afro Samurai 2: The Revenge of Kuma, on sale. They have also refunded those few consumers who did buy the game.
Versus Evil has done this across the board on Steam, Xbox, and even PSN, an unusual occurrence given Sony usually does not accept refund requests in this way.
Versus Evil’s Steve Escalante shared this statement:
The game was a failure. We could not do, in good conscience, volume 2 and volume 3. So we’ve begun the process, it’s been a long process to figure it out because Sony has never really had to do this in this way, but we’re returning all the money. So across the board we’re putting out an apology saying ‘sorry about this.
Steve also insists the game’s main failing was that it did not meet expectations. However, a quick skimming of the game’s reviews paints a different picture. The game is not just too short, it’s also broken in many places, including the part which needed to be correct the most; combat.
Afro Samurai 2: The Revenge of Kuma is the first product developer Redacted Studios has publicly confirmed; but they have probably moonlit on other games before.
