WWE 2K16’s MyCareer May Be The Greatest Career Mode In Any Wrestling Game Ever

September 25, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

It goes light years beyond what previous 3D WWE games were capable of doing for sure.

With MyCareer in WWE 2K16, 2K Sports is taking career mode a step farther than 3D WWE games have gone before.

First, a little recap on how these games were made by 2K Sports’ predecessor, THQ. Throughout the 2000s, WWE games had a predecessor for MyCareer called Season Mode. Under this mode, you could play as a wrestler throughout an entire season, or a full year. Under this mode, you could have feuds, win tournaments, and even win championships. Ulatimately, the goal of these modes was to win and retain those championship belts

In this years, the roster for WWE’s biggest shows, Raw and Smackdown, were completely separated, and subsequently some games only had you playing with one of these two rosters. This changed in 2005’s WWE SmackDown! vs. Raw, where you could switch shows, and subsequently, feud with wrestlers from both rosters.

So, what has changed today? In WWE 2K16’s MyCareer, you can tell whatever story you want. What this means is you do not have to always gun for the championship anymore. You have more control over your superstar’s career, almost booking his or her career, via your in-game actions.

There are no artificial divisions like in the Raw vs Smackdown days either. Your wrestler starts out in NXT, and in that capacity can stay an NXT wrestler or move on to the main shows if they desire. Your wrestlers can control the tempo and mood of his or her career, based on what they say in interviews, who they choose to form tag teams with or feud with, even the manner by which they initiate a run-in matters.

You can learn more about the nuances of MyCareer in the trailer above, but for longtime wrestling fans, this may be the true career mode they always wanted for in a wrestling game.

WWE 2K16 will be released on October 27, 2015, on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
