Valheim, the popular survival game from Iron Gate Studio, has sold over 10 million copies. The game reached that important milestone over a year after its initial release on Steam, even if it is still in early access.
Valheim came out on February 2, 2021, and was one of the most popular early access releases of that year. The game is set in Valheim, the tenth Norse world where the souls of warriors go after they die on the battlefield. This world is filled with monsters like trolls and skeletons. The goal of Valheim is to survive in this hostile environment and prove worthy of the halls of Valhalla.
This open-world survival game supports co-op for up to 10 players. The main objective of Valheim is to build a settlement to have a safe place between two explorations. Farming resources unlock new tools and weapons allowing players to progress in the game. The ultimate goal is to defeat five bosses, spread throughout the world.
What made Valheim popular is not only its PvE content. The game takes its whole meaning when played with others. Building an entire city with friends before boarding on a crafted boat to slay trolls together is one of the experiences that made Valheim so popular, especially when it first came out.
Almost a year later, the game is still receiving updates. Developer Iron Gate Studio said they were planning on a major content update that should be coming out later this year. The Mountain update will bring a new biome filled with new inhabitants, as well as new build pieces and new mechanics. Valheim will also be available on the Steam Deck.
