We haven't seen much in the way of mods for The Witcher 3, but that's all about to change as the game's developers at CD Projekt Red have released the official The Witcher 3 Modkit for players to download and create mods of their own.
The Modkit enables fans of the game to modify a multitude of aspects of the game to their own liking, and contains a texture import/export function, the ability to substitute meshes, insert new models into the game world, and full access to script files.
In other words, modders will be able to add their own characters into the game world and mess around with items.
Be sure to check out the forums for documentation for the Modkit, so you'll know how to get started.
"The modding tools we are releasing are not an editor,” says CD Projekt Red. "They’re meant for people who are somewhat experienced with modding software and are designed to make creating mods easier. They give access to game files and allow for easy extracting, compilation, and decompilation of resources. Beside visual changes, like modifying textures and models, they will allow to change UI assets and script files. The majority of gameplay-related mechanics are written in scripts."
To download the Modkit, head on over to Nexusmods and grab it.
For now, the mods are limited to the PC version of the game, so you won't be able to use them on the console.
