The Witcher is arguably bigger than ever before on various fronts. The book series was big in certain areas, then CD Projekt Red came in and made a set of three titles that blew everyone’s minds by how good they were. All The Witcher titles were amazing, especially Wild Hunt (the third game) which many still play to this day. Then, Netflix capitalized on this to make their own The Witcher live-action series (and then an anime prequel movie, amongst other spinoffs that are coming) and it was a major success for them. And now, The Witcher Season 3 has been confirmed to be in filming right now.
Those who remember the struggles of The Witcher Season 2 will understand why this is significant. The second season was ordered before the first even aired in 2019. Then, because of the pandemic and other factors, production of season 2 took years until FINALLY it was released on Netflix once again, and once again to be numbers and acclaim. So hearing that The Witcher Season 3 is starting right now, and that it’s being filmed in a “less stressful” time in the world will no doubt give heart to fans.
The picture that helped prove this was a shot of the actors for Geralt, Yennifer and Ciri hanging out on set. The tweet noted the “family reunion”, an apt line given the events of Season 2.
As for the plot of Season 3, that’s very much up in the air. We know that they’re following the books for the most part (even using Season 1 to tell the side stories and lore not used in the games and such), and Season 2 teased that Geralt and Yennifer would come together to train Ciri to fight what’s coming. Oh, and Ciri’s father is still alive, so that is something too.
