Kojima Productions is Moving Offices After 5 Years

March 31, 2022 by Carley Garcia

It’s time for a change of scenery.

With Death Stranding coming to PC just yesterday and Kojima Productions currently hiring for a ton of positions, the future is looking bright for the game developer. The sky’s the limit for a company headed by someone as prolific as Hideo Kojima, who continues to impress the community with his unrestrained creativity and unique approach to game design. Earlier this month, Kojima recieved a very prestigious award from the Japanese government’s Agency of Cultural Affairs for his contribution to fine arts. With his success only continuing to grow, it looks like Kojima Productions is moving offices for the first time in five years.

Kojima took to Twitter to show off pictures of the now-empty office. “Today is the day we say goodbye to the entrance, the Ludens hallway, and the kitchen that have been our home for a little over five years. Many memories come to mind. Farewell,” he writes, dotting the remark with a crying emoji.

It’s unclear where Kojima Productions is headed next, and no photos of the new space have been posted just yet. In October 2020, the company announced that it was starting to hire staff to work on an unannounced game project. It’s very likely that they have simply outgrown their initial space, and are looking to find somewhere to stretch out.

Hideo Kojima founded Kojima Productions in 2005 as a part of Konami, where he had worked for over three decades. After splitting with Konami in 2015, Kojima was reformed as an independent studio supported by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

In January 2022, the game dev posted a holiday card to Twitter featuring a number of characters players had never seen before. He also commented on what may be coming over the next year.

“This year, I’m going to start a new work in earnest and move to the next level of experimentation with a radical project. I’m also hoping to get the video team going,” he wrote. In November 2021, Kojima Productions announced that it would open a new business division focusing on television and film in Los Angeles. Nothing has been seen from this new extension of the company quite yet, but that could change at any moment.
