Splatoon Really Going Esports: Squidboards Announces Ink Or Sink Testfire

July 30, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

You know the interest on this is high when FGC personalities David ‘Ultradavid’ Graham and James Chen express interest in performing as commentators.

Following the recent update for private matches, the Splatoon fan community seems primed to bring their fandom to the eSports realm.

In fact, the community over at Squidboards is already preparing a tournament; their inaugural one, that will help determine the future of the game as a competitive sport. There's already a community Splatoon tournament in the works! Ink or Sink: Testfire begins August 7th at 6 EST! http://t.co/3VHPC82GEx

The first tournament will be called Ink or Sink Testfire, and it is starting August 7. They have laid out rules here and here, but for the purposes of brevity; we’re sharing a brief overview:

·         Ruleset is best of five, double elimination, and for grand finals, best of seven.

·         Each round of the tournament before finals will feature a different mode in this order: Turf War, Splat Zones, Tower Control.

·         Finals will have a mode striking rule, AKA, both teams will strike a mode they don’t want to play, and the remaining mode will be played for that match.

·         If disconnections occur to more than one player, the match will be replayed, if it occurs again, whatever team was leading will win immediately.

As you can see here, Squidboards has already filled out all 32 team slots for the tournament. Hopefully, they will be able to stream and record the whole tournament as well.

Are you looking forward to Ink or Sink Testfire? Are you a member of Squidboards, or one of the teams yourself? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
