Iron Fist Alexander is one of the first characters we were introduced to in Elden Ring. This curious jar man appeared in a pre-release trailer, and he’s captured our imagination ever since. The smooth-voiced warrior first finds himself trapped in a hole and requires a stick smack in the back to unlodge. His predicaments get stranger from there, requiring more elaborate solutions — and treacherous paths to places the Tarnished really don’t belong. Like every weird extra quest in Elden Ring, there’s a unique item at th end you’ll be rewarded with, but we’re just here to see Alexander become the best jar he can be.
Below, we’ve completed every step of Alexander’s very long adventure. He travels all around the Lands Between, and even if you’ve been playing for 100+ hours like us, there are certain locations you can easily miss him in. Don’t worry, there’s no way to fail this quest — and it can be completed at any point before the ending. When it comes to quests, Elden Ring is incredibly forgiving compared to previous games in the series. Complete everything Alexander has to offer, and you’ll even get a bonus boss fight against the man himself. Test your mettle and claim Alexander’s awesome talismans.

Iron Fist Alexander’s Quest | All Steps
Iron Fist Alexander is a giant Jar person that can help you in various boss fights depending on the current step of his quest. Alexander can appear as a summonable helper for Starscourge Radahn and for the Fire Giant. Completing his quest will earn you the Shard of Alexander talisman — which greatly increases the attack power of Ashes of War. Making Ash of War skills even better is insanely good for late-game bosses.
- Alexander is first found in Stormhill. You’ll hear his voice near Saintsbridge — he’s calling for help. Talk to him, then hit him with a heavy attack to knock him out of his hole. Talk to him, and he’ll tell you he’s travelling east toward Caelid for a festival.
- Travel to Gael Tunnel, a cave on the border between Limgrave and Caelid. Talk to him inside the cave, and he’ll reveal he’s going to Redmane Castle, a large fortress on the southern ledge of Caelid.
Go to Redmane Castle in Caelid and talk to Alexander at the festival meeting ground. Summon him and he can help you defeat Starscourge Radahn. Defeat the raid boss and Alexander will be located on the beach arena area. Talk to him again.
- Alexander now moves to Liurnia of the Lakes. Follow the road south of the Artist’s Shack near Carian Study Hall to hear his calls for help. To help Alexander escape, you’ll need something “slippery” — which is trickier this time.
How To Free Alexander – Second Time: To get Alexander out of his hole in Liurnia of the Lakes, you need to acquire an Oil Pot and throw it at him. Oil Pots can only be crafted. To craft an Oil Pot, collect the recipe from the merchant in Siofra River. Purchase the “Nomadic Warrior’s Cookbook” to unlock the Oil Pot recipe. Then you can craft one from Melted Mushrooms — you can find these in Siofra River.
- After freeing him, Alexander will appear on Mt. Gelmir near the Seethewater Terminus site of grace. Alexander is sitting in the lava lake, behind a Magma Wyrm — you’ll take constant damage while talking to him, so make sure you’re healed up.
If you can survive talking to Alexander in the lava lake, he’ll be available to summon for the Frost Giant boss on the Mountaintop of the Giants. He’ll also appear in one final location.
- Alexander appears one final time in Crumbling Farum Azula. Reach the Dragon Temple Lift site of grace and use the elevator. If you haven’t defeated the dragon in this area, do it now then return later. If the site is clear, Alexander will be waiting — and he’ll offer a duel.
Alexander is a tough opponent in his final form, but if you’ve made it this far, he shouldn’t be too difficult. Defeating him unlocks the Shard of Alexander talisman which increases Ash of War damage. We’re sad to see Alexander go, but this is a fitting end for a jar that only cared about becoming the best of the best.
