It has come to light that Rockstar Games has been banning players using mods on single player from Grand Theft Auto Online.
We reported earlier that they were banning players who used the mods on Grand Theft Auto Online, but that Rockstar was not being clear and consistent on what could get them banned. As early as last week, players were complaining that merely using FOV mods were getting them banned.
Since then, we had learned that the Grand Theft Auto Online PC experience was actually being hurt by the number of cheaters going online and using their mods on others. It reached a point that cheaters could make other players’ avatars kill themselves, without the control or consent of the original player.
Let’s revisit Rockstar’s official statement regarding mods:
Our fans do some amazing things with our games, but our priority is on making sure nothing detracts from the integrity of the GTA Online experience, and working to prevent anything that can potentially have a negative impact on the overall community.
Rockstar also did a blanket sweep of modders last January, but it seemed like they loosened their rules afterwards. This all takes us to today, where it seems Rockstar has gone behind their word, and simply banned everyone using mods.
Rockstar has yet to provide clarification, but obviously, this is what they need to do at this point. Hopefully, we won’t have to wait too long for it.
