GTA 5 Adds Creative Sandbox On PC With Director Mode

April 10, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

Director Mode expands the capabilities that you get from the game’s video editor.

Rockstar has revealed Director Mode in GTA 5 for PC, which is a new sandbox for fans to play with.

Director Mode expands the capabilities that you get from the game’s video editor. You get full control to record as much or as little gameplay footage as you want. From there, you mark the footage to separate them into different sections. From there, you can choose some preset camera angles, or switch to the free camera. The free camera can be positioned in almost any position to capture an action in a certain range.

From there, you can speed up or slow down the footage, use several movielike custom filters, and some post effects to tune them further. You can also customize depth of field, targeting and blend effects for camera. You can also add in and trim multiple radio tracks, as well as use scored music and in-game commercial recordings.

This range of tools sounds close to professional editing material, of course, but Director Mode brings it to the next level. Under Director Mode, you can play and record any character from the game. This includes the story and heist crew characters, some of the crowd characters, and even animals.

You can also make these characters say whatever you want, or perform contextual actions. Finally, Director Mode comes with several ‘cheats’ to change up the scene instead, including the weather and time of day.

GTA 5 will be released on Windows on April 14.
