There's one series that is undoubtedly the king of fighting games: Street Fighter. Without Street Fighter, the presence of fighting games would be sorely represented. While franchises like Tekken and Soul Calibur do right by the genre, Street Fighter stands in the echelons of time as the elite fighting game series of our generation.
However, if you're a fan of Street Fighter like me, then there's some bad news coming your way. Yoshinoro Ono, game producer at Capcom, has recently stated that Street Fighter 5 has barely entered the development cycle. This news comes courtesy of the latest issue of gaming magazine Famitsu.
This news might come as a surprise to some, given that the game is already playable and looks very good. You can see some of the latest gameplay footage here, in a video published by Youtube Channel Capcom Fighters.
Yoshinoro Ono also revealed that Street Fighter 5 will be the first game to implement breakable walls within stages. This innovation, which can be seen in fighting game Injustice: Gods Among Us, allows for more diversity in the game environment. Instead of fighting in the same area the whole time, gamers can move from one locale in the arena to to the next.
Ono also said that there is a lot of work to be done regarding the actual gameplay in Street Fighter 5. He notes that there are a ton of moves that still need to be added. This leads us to believe that while some of the characters shown in trailers and gameplay videos so far might be playable, that the rest of the cast are still very much unfinished.
