A build of Windows 10 was recently leaked, and it's got a number of cool, new features. While that probably doesn't come as surprising to most of you – generally, new operating system announcements are pretty interesting – the integration that Windows 10 seems to have with Xbox One is very cool.
Unlike previous iterations of the Windows operating system, Windows 10 appears to act as a veritable doorway into everything Xbox-related. Gamers will have direct access to their achievements, friends lists, feeds and even the Xbox LIVE store. Obviously, games that aren't playable on the PC won't magically be compatible, but everything else will. This should provide customers with more advance notice for games, especially for those gamers who use their PC more than their Xbox. We're looking at you, PC gaming master race.
There's been no word yet as to what sort of services will be available through Windows 10 that are currently offered on Xbox LIVE. It'd be very cool if gamers could party chat with one another; for instance, if one party was on Xbox LIVE and the other Windows 10.
At any rate, this addition to the Windows 10 infrastructure marks a very clear step forward in the efforts to minimize the differences between console and PC gaming. There will always be separating factors between the two, but Microsoft's vision appears to be one of unity. With this leaked build of Windows 10 also comes an entirely new development outlook for the company, one we here at Gameranx are very excited to see unfold.
