In the latest sell-through data for the video games NPD, it's been revealed that Destiny and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare are sitting atop the veritable mountain of video game sales for 2014; their Skylanders franchise also took home the gold as far as childrens' games are concerned.. They've dominated all other competition, and Activision must be very happy. Here's to hoping that they funnel a good chunk of this change into more quality game development. Destiny was plagued with glitches at its start, and still suffers from a number of mishaps that Bungie Studios – who develops the game – are trying to fix. Luckily, Advanced Warfare didn't have the same issues, and came out of the gates without many bugs.
Activision did have some words regarding their success in 2014:
“To date, 2014 has been a series of number ones for Activision, publishing – Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is the number one top-selling game of the year, Skylanders is the number one kids video game franchise of the year, and Destiny is the number one top-selling new video game franchise of the year,” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing.
“We are excited about how fans have responded to Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Destiny and Skylanders Trap Team, and have even more great new content in store in 2015.”
We're just as excited to see what Activision has planned for us in 2015. While there will undoubtedly be another Call of Duty title, there's been no word yet on whether or not Destiny 2 will be finished before the start of 2016.
