BioWare has just released Dragon Age: Inquisition for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One but according to stealthy BOX sources, the studio's fantasy RPG is their last cross-gen title with the next Mass Effect skipping the older platforms.
According to an 'industry insider', Inquisition is “"their last cross-gen game…" This shouldn't be too surprising all things considered, as the PS4 and Xbox One race towards 25 million units between, representing a reasonable market share. Granted, the PS3 and Xbox 360 have sold more than 160 million systems between them, but as they're both closing in on a decade old at this point, their tech is likely holding back developers.
As with any such report, it's purely a rumour until confirmed or officially denied, but BioWare has strongly hinted that the next Mass Effect will indeed be a PC, PS4, and Xbox One title.
During BioWare's PAX East panel in August, art director Joel MacMillan remarked, "it's kind of tricky to officially comment on that, but I mean, gen4 looks pretty awesome and Mass Effect's an awesome-looking game."
Take this with a pinch of salt, but if you do want to play the next Mass Effect and own a PS3 or Xbox 360 you probably will need to upgrade. With The Game Awards tonight and the PlayStation Experience tomorrow who knows, we might have confirmation very soon.
