Space is big, and crossing it in a spaceship takes time, it can get lonely. All those gun batteries and navigational screens won't make up for your ship's lack of soul.
That's why Cloud Imperium Games has announced that Star Citizen, the massively successful crowdfunding game, will introduce pets. The game has already amassed over $63 million, and pets will be introduced once it hits the $64 million mark.
"We have repair bots, we have fish, but we haven't implemented a traditional pet system in Star Citizen yet," Cloud Imperium chief Chris Roberts noted on the game's website. "At $64 million, that changes. From Jones the Cat in Alien to the Battlestar Galactica's Daggit, pets have a place on board starship and we want to give you that option in Star Citizen."
As for what type of pets we can expect in the game, Roberts said "Expect traditional terrestrial options, plus anything exotic we can dream up in the Star Citizen universe." There was also a sad note attached to the update, with Robers commenting "This stretch goal is in honor of Paddington, Strike Dog of the UEES Paul Steed. In one of our first videos Paddington helped us get to $4 million back in the initial campaign, and sadly passed away recently."
Should the game hit $65 million, Roberts says they're looking into a "major feature" but wouldn't share details on what that might be.
Roberts recently discussed crowdfunding in an interview.
