Every now and then, what appears to be a great up and coming game gets canned. It’s been done with a number of titles over the past few years. Some may remember Sony cancelling the 2006-announced Eight Days for the Playstation 3, which shocked the gaming industry. While relatively low-profile when compared to Star Wars: Battlefront 3’s cancellation, it is no less another example of just how any game can be hit by the struggles of game development.
Star Wars: Battlefront 3 was set to be one of the bigger entries into the series. Both of the iterations before it saw huge commercial success and offered gamers something that wasn’t very popular at the time: multiplayer third-person shooter action. Contrary to what other games were trying to emulate at the time – which was the player being near invincible – Battlefront made gamers feel like just another peon in the tides of war. Sure, there were moments when you could take control of a Sith Lord or Jedi Master for a short time, but the majority of your effort was spent on firing a simple blaster or something of that nature.
While DICE may be working on a series reboot, some Battlefront 3 gameplay has emerged, courtesy of Youtuber BananaSwag. While the game was said to be barely finished and that it was basically garbage bin material, we’re seeing what appears to be a pretty fleshed out title. We’re no experts in game development, but it looks like all that needed to be done was finish up the in-game environments and touch a few things up.
