Destiny: Exotic Weapons Guide

October 3, 2014 by Jacob Saylor

Reddit user ShdwFlm has published a list of all the Exotic weaponry in Destiny.

Destiny is an important game, as it starts to bridge the gap between first-person shooters and MMORPGs. While a lot of controversy has surrounded the game about whether or not it completes this job well, one thing is for certain: Destiny is a commercial success.

Gamers from all around are looking for ways to improve their character. Whether it’s through crushing their opponents in the Crucible or destroying their teammates’ scores in story based missions, there is competition to be had in Destiny. When Bungie Studios chose two of the most competitive game genres and smashed them together, we shouldn’t have expected anything less. It can be hard to figure out just how to get ahead of your enemies in Destiny, especially when your adversaries seem to have all the answers. Sometimes, it’s just a matter of the other person being more skilled than you. While there’s nothing we can do about that except tell you to go practice more, what we can do is provide a guide that might help you understand just how to get the most out of your character in Destiny.

Reddit user ShdwFlm recently created a list of all the ‘Exotic’ weaponry in Destiny. We picked out what we believe to be some of the best choices available for mission based gameplay and PvP in the Crucible.

Vex Mythoclast Solar Charge Time N/A Has no Charge Time.

Fusion Rifle

The 'Vex Mythoclast' seemed to be one of the most overpowered options, given its nonexistent charge time. The only failings fusion rifles normally have are their slow charge time and small clip. Normally, these two things in combination make fusion rifles mediocre in PvP. If you take one of those nuances away, you’re left with a devastating weapon capable of terrorizing your opponents on the battlefield. ShdwFlm notes that this weapon could still see play, even if it’s scaled down.

Red Death Kinetic Impact Rate of Fire Each kill heals you and speeds up reloads.

Pulse Rifle

While we don't think that 'Red Death' would be suited for PvP because you have to kill enemies to get the most out of its ability, we do think that it would be an amazing addition to any player's arsenal in PvE situations. If you put this weapon on a Titan running an armor based build, then you have a tank who gets health everytime he kills an enemy. Not only that, but the player would receive hastened reload time for his efforts, making this a two-pronged threat.

Super Good Advice Solar Rate of Fire Impact Almost all missed shots are returned to the magazine.

Machine Gun

'Super Good Advice' sports both a hilarious name and a powerful ability: missed shots are returned directly to the weapon's magazine. Considering machine guns sport a notorious lack of accuracy, this seems like it completely negates the weapon's failings and utilizes its strengths. This unique ability makes it a contender in both the Crucible and story missions.

Here are the rest of the Exotic guns, along with their special abilities:

Fusion Rifles

Plan C Arc Impact Charge Rate Charge/equip time is very fast after weapon swap.
Pocket Infinity Solar Impact Charge Rate Fires in full-auto. Missed rounds may return to clip.

Hand Cannons

Hawkmoon Kinetic Impact Rate of Fire 2-3 random shots in clip deal "considerable" bonus damage.
The Last Word Kinetic Impact Range Can be shot incredibly fast. Great from-the-hip precision.
Thorn Kinetic Impact Stability Shots penetrate and deal damage-over-time (no stacking).

Pulse Rifles

Bad Juju Kinetic Rate of Fire Impact Kills briefly enable instant reloads and a small damage buff.

Scout Rifles

MIDA Multi-Tool Kinetic Reload N/A Boosts movement. Fires on a hair trigger. Radar active in-aim.

Shotguns

Universal Remote Kinetic Stability Range Aiming greatly increases range and precision damage.

Sniper Rifles

Ice Breaker Solar Range Stability Kills explode. Regenerates ammo into 6-shot clip (can't reload).
Patience and Time Arc Stability Clip Size (4) Active radar and temporary invisibility while aiming.

Machine Guns

Thunderlord Arc Impact Rate of Fire Increased Rate of Fire and accuracy the longer it's fired.

Rocket Launchers

Gjallarhorn Solar Velocity Rate of Fire Rockets split into a cluster of target-tracking missiles on impact.
Truth Void Blast Radius Rate of Fire Aggressive target-tracking.

Auto Rifles

Hard Light Kinetic Equip/Reload Impact Shots penetrate and ricochet on hard surfaces.
Monte Carlo Kinetic Range Stability Dealing damage reduces melee cooldown.
SUROS Regime Kinetic Balanced Rate of Fire

Bottom half of clips deals bonus damage and may heal you.
