Cloud Imperium Games has shared three new trailers for its upcoming space sim Star Citizen.
The first trailer is a small preview of the FPS component of the game. We see a Citizen hiding behind a wall, and then rushing towards an unseen enemy, shooting bullets while he/she does so.
The second trailer is for a futuristic racer, which may take more influence from Star Fox than F-Zero. Rather than hovering across futuristic tracks, the entire race course is mid-air, and the racers fly through the course, and into certain circles. There are also narrow vents the racers need to pass through, but a lot of the racing is done completely in the air, in some places without clearly marked boundaries. The trailer refers to the depicted race as part of the 2944 Murray Cup.
Finally, this may be the most ambitious trailer Cloud Imperium Games has made for Star Citizen to date. This trailer for Constellation Aquila is also an ode to 2001: A Space Odyssey, and to a lesser extent, other sci-fi media about space exploration and colonization, including Chris Roberts’ own Wing Commander games and spinoffs.
The trailer depicts an exploration vessel discovering a new planet that supports life. They proceed to land on said planet, and go on the ground with an exploration vehicle. This trailer may be 100 % cinematic, but it holds the most promise out of all of them.
Cloud Imperium Games estimates they will be able to release Star Citizen on PC by 2015.
