Super Smash Bros: Mii Fighter Costumes And Smash Run Power Equip

August 15, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

Smash Run has an intricate power up system that could make the 3DS version a notch better than the Wii U version.

Much of this week’s Super Smash Bros posts were covered yesterday, new information  is still emerging.

Last Monday, Sakurai was trolling fans again prior to the Meta Knight announcement, showing off special suits for the Mii Fighters. One was dressed in Samus’ Varia Suit, while the other was made out in Meta Knight’s armor. Both seem to be swordfighters (though Samus herself has projectile attacks so I am sure we will be seeing some of that as well). One wonders if there are other Mii Fighter suits available. Who knows, maybe you can even dress up your Mii as everyone else.

Today, we got another look at a 3DS menu screen, and this time learned something cool about Smash Run.  You can actually choose what powers to equip prior to the start of the Smash Run, up to a certain weight. You can change how these powers are set up simply by touching and dragging them on the 3DS’s touch screen. If you want to randomize it, you can just press the X button. Finally, you can change that line up as many times as you want, at least until the Smash Run starts.

Now here’s the thing: there is a hierarchy to those powers. The level of a single power is based on its strength, how many times it’s been used, and its weight. So, barring pay-to-win mechanics, you could make the most out of power equipping if you take your time to study this mechanic in depth.

Sakurai has one helpful tip as you sort out your favorites; you can literally fave each power with a star, so that should help in weeding out the grain from the chaff.

Super Smash Bros is coming to Nintendo 3DS this October 3 and to the Wii U this winter.
