More Sources And Details Have Emerged That Corroborate Switch 2 Rumor For 2025

November 26, 2024 by Ryan Parreno

Can you imagine if we did this five to ten years from now all over again?

Yesterday, we reported a rumor that the Switch 2 will be releasing next year. Today, some new details have emerged in relation to the rumor.

Over the weekend, Famiboards user NinPagos shared a separate rumor also claiming that the Switch 2, codenamed Ounce, is scheduled for 2025. NinPagos also says it will be announced in January and released in March.

And then, Necro Felipe made his own report on this news on his Universo Nintendo website. As Necro Felipe pointed out, the rumor didn’t originally come from the Weibo user, but Famiboards.

So, in a funny roundabout way, the rumor about the Switch 2’s release date originally came up on Famiboards, seemingly from NinPagos.

However, the Weibo user added details about shipments of the T239 SOC rumored to be the brains of the Switch 2, as well as claims of Switch and Switch 2 manufacturing numbers.

Necro Felipe also added that the Weibo user has a track record for accurate predictions. He dropped teasers for the June Nintendo Direct as well as the date for the trailer of The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.

As we had credited Nintendo Prime as our original source, it turns out he didn’t know himself that it partly originally came from Famiboards itself. But Nintendo Prime has new insight on the rumor as well.

Nintendo Prime made this tweet a few hours ago:

“Misread the rumored numbers. Thank you to the local Chinese speakers in my audience. The rumor is 6.5m ready for launch of Switch 2 in march compared to just 2.7m ready for Switch in 2017.

Launch months, obviously!”

So, this is not to claim that we are sure all of this information is accurate. But what we will say is Nintendo is making a very huge bet if they are launching their console with 6.5 million units ready to go.

There is certainly a risk that some of that stock will be smuggled early because of the high interest in the product. But what we mean is that Nintendo must be supremely confident if they think they can sell most of that 6.5 million units at launch.

We know the logic that Nintendo would need to make large stocks of their console, to fight scalpers. But this also speaks to opportunities Nintendo missed out in the past.

Because Nintendo may have sold a gargantuan number of Wii consoles at its launch, but with hindsight, we know that Nintendo could have sold more, if they were able to maintain large stocks in the market. This was where the scalpers were able to take advantage of the situation.

The Nintendo Switch, as well as the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, also faced supply issues because of the extenuating circumstances of the pandemic. But now, Nintendo has an opportunity to do better.

It’s certainly exciting to think that this is now all coming soon, after the last four months of Nintendo fans gnashing and wailing like Babylonians took over Jerusalem. But as always – and never forget this – this is still a rumor, until Nintendo makes the official announcement.
