A post on the Japanese Hyrule Warriors Twitter page has confirmed that there will be no online co-op in the upcoming Zelda-themed hack-and-slash. This comes as a surprise considering that several recent games in the Warriors franchise — including Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper, which was a Wii U launch title — do include online play. Why it was left out here is a mystery.
But do not be alarmed just yet. There will indeed be some form of online play. A box at the bottom of the game's listing on Nintendo's Japanese site explains that the Nintendo Network will be used for downloading content, posting to Miiverse, and playing special battles in adventure mode. What are these special battles? There are no details so far, so keep your ears to the ground.
And remember, you will be able to play local co-op with one player using the screen on the GamePad and the other using the TV with a Pro U Controller. Hyrule Warriors is still scheduled for release on Wii U on September 26.
