Famitsu has just outed three new playable characters for Hyrule Warriors. Ocarina of Time is bringing the species diversity, as Darunia and Princess Ruto join Sheik in the roster.
Sheik should need no introduction. Reacting to Ganondorf’s threat in disguise, Princess Zelda pretends to be a member of the Sheikah tribe, directing Link throughout most of the game. Sheik’s ninja skills and overall cool factor has made her one of the most popular characters in the series. Sheik has just been separated from Zelda in Super Smash Bros 4, but we have no explanation yet on who Sheik is in Hyrule Warriors. Basing on the precedent set by Midna, it’s safe to assume they will make Sheik a completely different person from the fighting Queen Zelda. As is always the case, Sheik’s appearance as outed by Famitsu does not clue us in on whether Sheik is a he or a she.
They may not be as famous, but Darunia and Princess Ruto are interesting additions too. Darunia is the odd male character here, in much the same way he is the odd male Sage. He is leader of the Gorons a Sworn Brother to Link, and surprisingly, a song-and-dance man. I suspect Darunia won’t just be bringing his brawn, but his musical ways over to help defend Hyrule. Like Midna, he may start off as an antagonist first as well.
Princess Ruto is another Sage, a princess of her race, the Zoras, and can claim to having become Link’s fiancée, if at least temporarily. The Zora themselves are longtime allies of the Royal Family of Hyrule, so she may be entering the battle at Queen Zelda’s behest. We don’t know if Ruto, or for that matter, Darunia, will be given their abilities as a Sage, but we are sure they are bringing their armies to bear down on Hyrule’s enemies. You can get a small look at the Famitsu screen (low resolution for now) here.
Hyrule Warriors will be out on Wii U on September 26.
