Thanks to the Create-a-Sim demo for The Sims 4, we may have learned the traits, aspriations, and rewards that will feature in the game.
Based on the string file from the demo which was extracted by SimsFans.de, SimsVIP was able to put together a list of all of those aspects of the game.
There are 35 traits in all ranging from evil to childish and from family orientated to loner. As you'd expect, these traits each affect how your Sims interact with each other and the world around them. For example, lazy Sims, "gain powerful Moodlets from Watching Tv or Napping as well as from Comfortable furniture, become Fatigued more quickly from exercise, and grow Tense when performing household chores."
Producer Grand Rodiek commented, "We let you save with a minimum of one [trait] if you wish. A max of three personality traits exiting CAS with an adult."
Aspirations are split into bonus traits and reward traits. Sims with the bestselling author trait, for instance, want "to write books and become a famous author!" and their traits are:
"Bonus Trait: Muser – Musers get better boosts to their skills when they’re inspired. Reward Trait: Poetic – Poetic Sims can capture life itself in a book, and wield it to bring back someone they’ve lost."
Aspirations are split into the categories: athletic, creative, deviant, family, food, fortune, knowledge, love, nature, and popularity. There are several aspirations within each of these categories – joke star, party animal, and social butterfly all fall under popularity.
Possible aspiration rewards include Antiseptic (hygiene needs decay much slower), Hardly Hungry (these Sims don't need to eat much), and Never Weary (they don't need to sleep).
Producer John Berges said on Twitter "To clarify, you'll still earn a unique reward trait for completing each aspiration in game; that has not changed." He added, "since you can switch your Sim's aspiration at any time, they can complete more than one, earning multiple rewards."
Meanwhile, Mod the Sims user tedw has shown that it is possible to create default skin replacements mods in The Sims 4. He wrote:
"For testing purposes, I made a default replacement of the blue skin tone in the game, changing the blue for a purple colour. It shows that default replacement mods can be made for things like skin. Hopefully replacements could be made to fix issues with some of the darker skin tones lacking warmth and some of the eye colours being too similar (there are two greens and two blues that are almost identical to each other). Obviously this isn’t the same as adding new skin tones or eye or hair colours, but it’s a start."
This is the result of his work:
We also have a new image of hairstyle highlights in the game but as the Create-a-Sim demo doesn't feature all game content, expect more styles come September. The image comes from TipToeSims on Tumblr.
There will be no baby showers in the game but this tweet from Sims Guru Azure Bowie Hankins sets up an interesting scenario indeed.
One of my Sims is pregnant. She's in the Criminal career. I sent her to the lounge to meet Sims and pickpocket them.

Bowie-Hankins also revealed that you can have have parties including wedding parties, house parties, birthday parties, and dinner parties and not just in your house. You can have a wedding or birthday party in a park and can have dates in museums or bars.
Regarding what happens during parties, he said Sims love to dance and socialize at parties but some "Sims that are tired or loners might sneak off to watch tv or read."
Finally, Rodiek said Sims will finally use a screwdriver to fix a TV rather than bash it with a hammer.
The Sims 4 launches on PC and Mac on September 2nd.
