If you missed out on the Smash Invitational in Los Angeles during E3 week, you'll get another opportunity to watch Nintendo's mascots pound each other mercilessly in a public setting. San Diego Comic-Con will play host to a Smash tournament on July 25, but instead of the Wii U build, the 3DS version will be the star of the show. And unlike the Invitational, anyone is eligible to participate. If you can't attend in person, it'll once again be streamed on Nintendo's Twitch channel.
Here's the press release:
REDMOND, Wash. — Nintendo will be hosting its first-ever tournament for the Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS game at San Diego Comic-Con on July 25. Fans are invited to come to the Nintendo Gaming Lounge at the Marriott Marquis & Marina located at 333 W. Harbor Drive (adjacent to the San Diego Convention Center) for a chance to participate.
Starting at noon, there will be a preliminary round in which groups of four competitors battle it out, with the winner advancing. During the finals, players will duke it out one-on-one to determine the top smasher. Tournament slots are limited, and fans will be able to sign up the day of the event on a first-come, first-served basis.
For fans not able to attend San Diego Comic-Con, tournament action will be streamed live on Nintendo’s Twitch channel at http://www.twitch.tv/Nintendo. Additional Nintendo Gaming Lounge activities will be announced in the future.
In daily update news, game director Masahiro Sakurai has revealed two new outfits. Samus is getting a simple palette swap to resemble her Light Suit from Metroid Prime 2, but Mario is going all-American with his attire from NES Open Tournament Golf. This update should have come on July 4, no?
Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS comes out October 3, while the Wii U version comes out in the winter.
