Nintendo E3 2014 Headed By Super Smash Bros Invitational

April 29, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

Nintendo will also have a Digital Event, Treehouse Live, and they will bring Smash to Best Buy.

Nintendo has just unveiled their official plans for this year’s E3. The theme is Play Nintendo, and topping it all off, to the benefit of Super Smash Bros fans, is a Super Smash Bros Invitational to be held at the event itself.

Without further ado, check out the announcement video:

This must have been one of the best kept secrets ever. 16 of the top tier Super Smash Bros players are competing in the 1st official Nintendo sponsored Smash tournament. Fans will be able to watch the tournament live and via livestream, but we are not getting details until later.

Connected to this is the Super Smash Bros Smash-Fest, to be held at Best Buy outlets. Again, Nintendo is not sharing much details, but it’s intended to satisfy fans who can’t go to E3 but want to try the game out sooner rather than later, in the same way they satiated fans around the US last year.

Treehouse: Live@E3 will feature Nintendo of America’s top people from the Treehouse on the showroom floor. They will be livestreaming, demoing games out, and doing more. As one of the most secretive places in gaming, this promises to be quite a revelation.

Lastly, Nintendo promises a digital event at June 10, 9 AM PT, with the bold claim that this is the one that we have been waiting for. The Nintendo Digital Event will be held in the same vein as last year’s Nintendo Direct.

As always, Nintendo is content holding their secrets close to the chest, but there’s no doubt this is going to generate hype. I’m sure the Smash community alone feels vindicated from hearing this announcement, at least the ones who weren’t in on it.

Of course, we will let you know when more details for E3 gets revealed, from Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, EA, Ubisoft, the indies, and all the main players. You can read Nintendo’s full press release here and check out their E3 website here.
