Bioware is almost done unveiling all the characters in Dragon Age 3: Inquisition. Today, we see another returning character. The beard’s a little faded and there’s a cut across his lip now, but no mistake about it, this is definitely Cullen.
Much like Leliana, Cullen is mired in Dragon Age’s lore. In fact, he was the subject of a bit of retconning between Dragon Age 1 and Dragon Age 2, as the alleged rumors that he kills three mage apprentices after a mental breakdown in Dragon Age 1 are revealed to be pure rumors in Dragon Age 2.
In the canon for Dragon Age 3, Cullen is the guy who has seen some shit, but has somehow kept his integrity intact. He was there when the Blight caused the downfall of the Ferelden Circle, and was smack dab in the middle of the Mage-Templar war. It was Cullen who rallied Kirkwall’s Templars to bring order, and seeing this, Cassandra recruits Cullen to join you in cleaning up the mess of the world as a member of the Inquisition.
As Mike Laidlaw has hinted at, there’s one more character to reveal, someone he has mysteriously nicknamed ‘Scribbles.’ I know you’re already asking, who the heck is Scribbles?
Well, she’s a background character we have already seen in some Inquisition screenshots, such as seen below. Her name stems from being apparently a scribe, although Bioware has yet to share her name, background or explain her role in the Dragon Age universe.
Lest you question this, here’s the Tumblr tag for the search string ‘scribe girl’. As you can see, Bioware fans are genuinely curious and want to know more about her. There's even celebratory fan art of her! There's a real demand for Scribbles in the game now, and Laildlaw seems to believe that they're ready to deliver.
