Insomniac Games has revealed the performance goals of Xbox One exclusive Sunset Overdrive.
Surprisingly enough, the game is planned to run at 900p, 30FPS. It was already running under those performance specs in every preview we have seen to date, including at E3. Furthermore, they currently have no plans to raise either spec in the near future.
As they point out, they are comfortable with how the game is looking based on a practical standpoint, AKA, if you just play the game you can see that it looks great. Insomniac is currently focusing on optimizing what you actually see on screen.
Insomniac is, of course, pushing a minority position regarding gaming graphics, especially 1080p and 60FPS, but it must be said they back up their talk with their results. It’s hard to argue that Sunset Overdrive looks terrible, especially with all the vibrant colors. However, I think many gamers will resort to an argument often made against Nintendo’s games, which is that the stylized art style makes these games easier to depict overall, so they don’t need to go all the way with those specs.
In any case, Sunset Overdrive stands out precisely for the ‘tude and somewhat ‘90s throwback sensibilities it has. We’re looking forward to sharing more on the game when news appears. Sunset Overdrive is coming October 28 exclusively to the Xbox One.
