Ubisoft has shared more details about Pagan Min, the purported antagonist of Far Cry 4. Apparently, he’s not such a bad guy.
In fact, you may not remember him, but Pagan Min is your friend. He chats you up and takes selfies with you, in the midst of all the chaos and destruction he’s caused, and after just killing an underling with a ballpoint pen, he chats you up and takes selfies with you. I didn’t say he was a good friend.
Pagan Min is apparently that guy, the one who gets you into trouble. He’s charming, elegant, charismatic, you take him home and your parents will love him, but deep down you know he’s broken.
The deal with Pagan Min is that wasn’t the name he was born with. He apparently ran off from his roots to find his fortunes in the Himalayas, and found himself in the failed (fictional) state of Kyrat. Initially siding with the Royalists, he takes power after a bloody struggle for power. Now, he runs Kyrat with a mix of Chinese and local soldiers, and he has no respect for the history and culture of Kyrat.
He loves you, though. To be specific, he loves the lead character, Ajay. He knows your party and has even arranged a party for you. In his words, you two are going to fuck shit up, over in Kyrat.
Ubi’s description of Pagan Min implies some intriguing possibilities. Accentuating his differences with Vaas, it may be possible that you will find yourself siding with Pagan as a possibly story path, and maybe unlike Vaas, you can even justify it to yourself. It’s also possible that Pagan Min is not the only, or even the true, antagonist of the game. After all, you don’t become ruler of Kyrat like he did and not make enemies.
Far Cry 4 is coming November 2014 to Windows, Xbox 360, PS3, Xbox One, and PS4.
