Some fans are alleging that older and newer footage of Dark Souls 2 revealed serious changes to the lighting, indicating that certain aspects of the game’s graphics have been downgraded. You can take a look at some comparison screenshots below.
The videos being compared where just from January and March of this year. Note that the videos in particular show the game running on Playstation 3. It’s not quite clear why a downgrade would be necessary on a console that’s been around for eight years now. If there is a possible reason, it could be that even after all this time, developers are having a hard time working with the system’s Cell processor. We also have no word for now if the Xbox 360 and / or Windows versions also have the same issues, or if videos from those versions were used in early previews.
The downgrade is significant enough to be conspicuous, although whether it hampers gameplay would be a matter of debate. We know some of you will question if a downgrade has even actually happened, so we’ll share the videos put forward as evidence here and leave it up to you to decide. Dark Souls 2 is releasing March 11 on Windows, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360.
