Thief Launch Trailer Reveals The New Garrett Has A Backstory

February 20, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

This is a Garrett who thinks he has blood on his hands, and some new tricks in his sleeve.

Square Enix and Eidos Montreal have released a new trailer for Thief, releasing February 25 for Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Windows, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. The trailer reveals new story and gameplay details.

Garrett’s story in this Thief has a prologue; a failed heist with him and a female partner, that ended with him blacking out and her disappearing and completely leaving his life. Garrett has apparently returned to the City, not just in his own self-interest, but to find out what truly happened, as she continues to haunt his dreams.

The trailer also introduces us to some of the characters, such as Basso, the Queen of Beggars, Graven, The Baron, and of course, The Thief Taker General, whose introduction leads into some gameplay.

You may already know about some of the free running elements in the game, but this sequence shows how you can run from your potential captors, doing some frenetic free running, walking precariously across tiny platforms, and using tricks with your grappling hook.

The trailer also pretty much hints at Garrett slowly unearthing some grand conspiracy of some kind, that may relate to the trailer’s introduction. There is a mysterious new power source some secret organization is collecting, and it may be all behind the immense power struggle ongoing for the city right now.

Without a doubt, expectations are high on the new Thief, the first one for quite a long time, and another multigeneration game to boot.
