There are a few PlayStation 5 video game titles that we knew was in the works long before the unveiling of the actual console. One of those games happens to be Godfall, an upcoming action RPG which is being developed by Counterplay Games while published through Gearbox Publishing. It’s a game that throws players into a high fantasy world and while the game looked rather interesting as is, the studio has been working closely with the new technology that Sony is providing for the PlayStation 5. Naturally, the components inside the system should allow players to have an overall faster and more seamless experience thanks to the SSD technology, but one area that should throw players into a new kind of experience is the DualSense.
If you’re unfamiliar with the DualSense, this is essentially the evolution from the PlayStation DualShock controller. In a simpler sense, you could just picture this controller as the DualShock 5 but beefed up to provide players with some unique experiences that we haven’t seen in the DualShock lineup prior. For instance, there are haptic feedback and triggers that could provide different levels of resistance. These are the features that Godfall will be making use of when players get the game sometime later this year.
According to a recent interview on Gamespot with game director, Keith Lee, we got a bit of insight regarding the video game title and the DualSense. All-in-all, the two features we made mentioned earlier will play a big role in the game as Keith alerted Gamespot that elements such as feeling the different unique rumbles could provide some gameplay cues. For instance, if a player was to swing a sword and it clashed against another weapon, you would have a unique feedback feeling on the controller. The same could be said with players sliding across different terrains, whether it be gravel or sand.
“What’s exciting about the DualSense controller is the fact that it has stereo vibration in terms of the rumblers, as well as resistance on the triggers, so one of the things that you can do is to create, for the first time, a sensation of your weapon hitting another weapon and how it resonates. The fact that if you’re sliding across the ground, depending on the surface of the material – you might slide on gravel or sand or water – the way the vibrations work really feel like the way that those surfaces would feel.”
Of course, with that said, there are likely several other unique rumbles and resistance feeling triggers that could provide for some other notable cues or experiences within Godfall. As mentioned the game is coming out at some point later this year for the PlayStation 5 but also on the PC platform.
