Rainmaker Entertainment, along with Blockade Entertainment, have just revealed new pictures for the upcoming Sly Cooper CG animated movie, on their Facebook page. The movie is apparently slated for release in 2016.
The page itself was put up just two weeks ago, and the first few pics were uploaded in a matter of hours. While they have given no indication in terms of progress, they may be either starting or in the middle of production.
We have a feeling the art style will be dividing fans. Whereas the original games had a stylized cel-shaded look reminiscent of hand drawn animation, the screenshots show they have gone in the opposite direction with detailed, but still sylized graphics. We also get our first look at Murray Hippo and Bentley Turtle, and honestly, Murray has looked better, at least I think so. You be the judge.
The Facebook page also shares quite a bit about the film premise, apparently a ‘kinetic and comedic heist film’. Sly is on the chase for an old book that keeps the secrets of the Cooper Clan, a family with a long lineage of thievery. They’re racing to get the book before Clockwerk, a Russian metallic owl who wants to end the Cooper bloodline. They’ll be going around the world, from Parisian backdrops to China’s lush mountains.
Sound exciting to you? Rainmaker and Blockade are also at the helm for the upcoming Ratchet and Clank CG movie, which you can learn about here. It’s clearly a push to make these characters more well known to the non-gaming audience.
