Microsoft released an Xbox One dashboard update yesterday, which according to Major Nelson, is a required system update.
The update fixes some reported issues with the SmartGlass application, message notifications and a few other areas. The update downloads on its own and powers down the console when completed. The next time you boot up the Xbox One the update takes a few minutes to install.
The update addresses the following issues:
- Addresses SmartGlass issues for some users when coming in and out of connected standby
- Addresses multiplayer issues for some users when re-joining games
- Addresses issues with inconsistent notifications for some users
- Addresses dashboard performance for some users
- Offers improvements for Xbox One’s TV, system update, and content update services for scaling over time
- Updated wireless networking driver to improve connectivity issues for some users
This small, but required, update only represents one of many more updates to come in the future. Although the Xbox One party chat functions similarly to the Xbox 360, the addition of Skype and changes to the party system proves cumbersome for some Xbox One users. Major Nelson acknowledged the issues and promises "things will get better."
