It’s our first Killzone Shadow Fall guide as we profile the LS21 Valk, one of two LSA submachine guns, and one of the three submachine guns in the whole game. It is used by the Assault class in multiplayer.
The LS21 is made for close encounters, but is more of a jack of all trades than a specialist. Basically, it is an average gun, and a good one for beginners to start with. It deals relatively low damage, requiring 4 to 6 shots to kill in its proper range. That damage output goes down even further beyond 25 feet. However, this is Shadowfall, and any headshot on any gun is a one-hit kill.
The LS21 only has a 24 round magazine, and fires slowly at 560 RPM. For these reasons, it remains best suited to close combat.
Much like its competitors, Killzone: Shadow Fall now has weapon attachments. For the LS21, you can choose the VSA Dot Sight, the standard iron sight for this game. You can also get the VSA-exclusive holo sight, which provides an exact reticule with slight magnification, and an unobstructed view. Finally, the VSA ACOG sight, which provides sharpshooter accuracy, but usually isn’t useful for the LS21.
By default, VSA weapons have a standard grip, and in Killzone, this unfortunately provides no tangible effect. You will want to switch underbarrel attachments as soon as you can.
The 1st one available is a 3 shell shotgun attachment. The shotgun will not be able to do one shot kills outside its five to ten feet range. This attachment is not good for head-on encounters, and is used best in flanking maneuvers.
And then, there’s the laser pointer, the attachment of choice when hip firing. Crosshairs and bullet spread become tight, so much so that you can hip fire at long distances.
Overall, the LS21 is easy to pick up and play, but is unsuitable for competitive multiplayer. It is best utilized in this scenario when flanking enemies. I’ve passed through the last recommendations to here, but if you are interested in that, you can watch it at the tail end of the source video below.
