Pokémon Sword & Shield: Get Shiny Magikarp, 20 Battle Points & 10 Dive Balls | 2020 Rewards Event

January 2, 2020 by Kevin Thielenhaus

Get these 2020 bonus rewards before they’re gone forever! Magikarp, Meowth, BP and Balls — you’ll find lots of rewards in January, 2020.

Act fast, and you can still earn some very special rewards in Pokémon Sword & Shield. New Year’s is in the past, but January is here, and there are three big bonuses you can collect for the month — including increased Magikarp spawns, free Battle Points, and a stack of handy free Dive Balls. You’ll have to act fast to claim them all!

In addition to those three rewards, you can also still collect the rare Gigantamax Meowth until January 15th. As one of my 14 highly recommended Pokémon, you’ll absolutely want to grab Meowth for his ability to generate huge stacks of in-game cash! There’s no other way to collect this special Meowth, so act fast and jump into the Mystery Gift function on your menu.

Learn how to get all the 2020 bonuses with the full guide below. For more guides, check out our full Pokémon Sword & Shield wiki right here.

To collect the limited-time Pokemon Sword & Shield January 2020 rewards, follow the simple steps below.

  • 2020 Special Rewards:
    • Shiny Magikarp: Increased Max Raid Battle Spawn Rate [Ends 1/3/20]
    • 20 Battle Points: Claim through Mystery Gift. Select ‘Get Gift Via Code / Password’ and input the code G1GANTAMAX. [Ends 1/30/20]
    • 10 Dive Balls: Claim through Mystery Gift. Select ‘Get Gift Via Code / Password’ and input the code 0T0SH1DAMA. [Ends 1/30/20]

How To Catch Shiny Magikarp?: Magikarp have an increased spawn rate during this short limited-time event. You’ll find Magikarp in Max Raid Dens in the Wilds. Look for red pillars of light — that marks a Rad Den location. You’ll find Magikarp in about 50% of the Raid Dens. Magikarp has a much higher chance of spawning as a Shiny Pokémon, so this is your chance!

What Are Battle Points?: Battle Points are a useful special currency that you can normally earn at the Battle Tower — a location that unlocks after finishing the main story. When the story is complete, return to Wyndon to find Battle Tower. Battle Points can be spent on rare items and special mints that change your Pokémon’s nature. You won’t find that anywhere else.

What Are Dive Balls?: Dive Balls are especially useful when it comes to catching Pokemon that live in the water. Try using Dive Balls when fishing for Pokemon, or when trying to catch Pokémon on the water in the Wilds.
