Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order – Unlock These Skill Tree Upgrades First | Best Early Skills Guide

November 15, 2019 by Kevin Thielenhaus

Pick these skills first in Jedi: Fallen Order to live another day against the forces of the Empire.

If you’re struggling with the challenging difficulty in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, you don’t have to lower the difficulty in the settings just yet. Instead, you can unlock some incredibly helpful early skills first. As you earn XP, you’ll get Skill Points which you can spend on permanent upgrades at any Meditation Circle.

Upgrades range from new attack powers, to simply making your healing stims better. Some of these early skills are absolutely required if you want to survive for long as Cal and his droid buddy BD-1 fight swarms of increasingly difficult Imperial forces. In my experience, you’ll want to focus on health and survival. The more you can survive early on, the more you can earn extra skills and force powers which make later battles easier.

Unlock These Skill Tree Upgrades First | Beginner’s Guide

The Skill Tree is a menu you can access from any Meditation Circle. Below, you’ll find my personal recommendations for the early skills you’ll want to unlock first.

These skills are focused on survivability — depending on your personal playstyle, you might prefer something different. There are no objectively correct choices, so if you’re playing on an easier difficulty and want to breeze through, you’ll have no problem selecting attacks only.

Skills To Unlock First:

  • Survival Skills: Cal’s maximum life increased.
  • Superior Blocking: Cal’s defenses are improved, allowing him to take less block damage from incoming attacks.

These two skills are critical for your survival early in the game. Later, you can take Enhanced Survival Skills and Force Attunement to further enhance Cal’s abilities.

The Next Skills You’ll Want:

  • Dash Strike: Cal dashes forward and attacks his target. Jump while dashing to flip over the target instead.
  • Empowered Slow: Holding Slow allows Cal to slow his target for a longer duration.

These offensive abilities are incredibly useful. Dash Strike (and Sprint Strike) make your life easier in difficult combat situations — they can blast through enemy shields. It’s especially useful when trying to deal with the Nightbrothers on Dathomir.

Empowered Slow is a no-brainer. It makes Slow even better. Slow is an amazing ability in combat for controlling crowds of enemies — just blast an enemy with slow and you’ll be able to defeat them fast.

In essence, it’s a great idea to start with the Survival Tree first. Improved Stims and everything in the Survival Tree should be your priority on higher difficulty levels, and unlocking these skills will give you more leeway against tough bad guys and bosses.
