Check Out This Awesomely Weird Bug Transforming Red Dead Redemption 2 Into A Neon Nightmare

November 6, 2019 by Kevin Thielenhaus

Go on a trippy journey in RDR2 with this rainbow PC graphics glitch.

The Red Dead Redemption 2 PC launch has been rocky. Many players reported constant crashes caused by an unstable launcher, making it impossible for a large number of Day One players to get past the opening logo. That’s a game-breaking problem — this is something completely different. Here’s a bizarre bug that multiple players have experienced in the first few days, and it’s unlike anything I’ve seen before. This might even be better than the infamous donkey lady glitch from RDR1.

Okay, it isn’t as funny. But it’s visually incredible. This graphics bug causes particle effects to become bright light sources, transforming the game into an endless Christmas decoration. Trees look like Christmas trees, and anything with tons of particles light up in bizarre, trippy ways. Let’s call this Red Dead Redemption 2: Acid Mode.

What’s the cause of this weird bug? Players have no idea, but it seems to happen after changing the resolution. Instead of generating particle effects, the particles turn into lighting effects. It’s very weird, and it’s also kind of captivating. It’s like an early look at Christmas Mode, especially in the snowy first chapter of RDR2. Who wouldn’t want a little holiday cheer to liven up the first few hours?

Red Dead Redemption 2 isn’t the only game affected by this extremely weird (and kind of beautiful) graphical glitch. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare players have experienced the same rainbow madness, so this might have something to do with Nvidia Drivers. Honestly, I have no idea, but it seems restarting the game or changing the resolution again fixes the issue.

Whatever the reasons, it’s pretty great — and a much better glitch than constant crashes.
