If you’re familiar with the Yakuza series then chances are you were waiting on the release of Judgement, a spin-off to the long-running franchise from Sega. After its initial release in Japan, there was a bit of a rocky period with the game as a whole. This was due to an actor who portrayed a character from the game, ending up in some legal troubles. As a result, Sega pulled the game and started work on replacing the likeness used for the in-game character. Luckily this didn’t affect the overall release date for the game within Western markets which is evidently good as it ended up having a pretty sizeable success.
In fact, the success was so good that it blew the expectations that Sega had for the game originally. We don’t know the official numbers yet and with it, just how well Sega had expected the game to do. Regardless, the number was lower than the overall sales in the west, so perhaps this is a good sign from Sega to pursue more installments. Unfortunately, at the time of writing this, we don’t know if there will be a sequel in the works.
For those of you unfamiliar with the game, Judgment follows a detective solving a case of murders. We covered our overall impressions of the game along with some gameplay footage in a Before You Buy episode, which you can view above. At any rate, the game is officially available to enjoy today, exclusively for the PlayStation 4 platform.
