Kicking off Gamescom this year was The Coalition’s Gears 5 with a new trailer and more details about the horde mode. As you may recall, Gears 5 mainly focuses on Kait Diaz, a female member part of the group fighting to save humanity. However, we learn that Kait’s family origins are attached to the locust and this journey will hold some of the answers that Kait is seeking out.
Another aspect that was covered is the horde mode which is a game mode where players will fight against waves of enemies. For instance, we know now that each character will have a power-up and it’s important to note that each character will have a unique power-up ability rather than being tied to being class-based. It looks like you’ll have a diverse set of abilities too as there are characters that can shoot through walls, take control of an enemy or even go invisible.
That wasn’t the only big reveal today for Gears 5 Horde mode, as it seems that there is a new crossover featuring Halo so you’ll see some of the characters from Halo Reach making a jump into the game though we don’t know how the power-ups will be for the particular cast in this mode quite yet. At any rate, Gears 5 is gearing up for its own release which is set to launch on September 10, 2019, for the PC and Xbox One platforms.
